Matrix Spike on a Non-Client Sample
Matrix Spikes are sometimes performed on field samples not associated a given laboratory report. These samples are called Non-Client samples because they do not belong to the client listed on the laboratory report. However, the quality control information generated from these samples are reported in EDF, as they are part of quality control associated with the report. To protect confidential information, Non-Client samples are reported without sample information (no record is entered into the SAMPLE table). They are essentially entered like a quality control sample. The image below is an overview of how the samples are organized for EDF entry.
Note that EDF requires both the matrix spike (MSEFF-1) and the original value of EFF-1(NCEFF-1) to complete Lab Report 1. The EDF system calculates the matrix spike recovery from these measured values (and the EXPECTED value), generating the percent recovery. An Example of Lab Report 1 is outlined in the tables below:
